The artist's incomparable life and substantial oeuvre has been brought to the fore by granddaughter Bonnie Portnoy. Though she never knew him, she has unearthed a treasure trove of material — his art, stories of his adventurous expeditions, his friendships with noted personalities of the era, and his coast-to-coast exhibitions.  Published by Jack Bacon & Company, The Man Beneath the Paint is the first comprehensive biography, with more than 250 illustrations. Available mid-April in selected indie bookstores and online at Nevada Museum of Art.

Exhibition April 19 - June 23, 2024:

Tilden Daken: The Art of Adventure at Jack London State Historic Park, Glen Ellen, California.

Bonnie Portnoy

Bonnie lives in Marin County, just a few miles north of the enchanting Arts and Crafts house Tilden Daken built in Mill Valley, California, in the 1920s — unbeknownst to her until she launched the Tilden Daken Legacy Project. A former merchandising and marketing executive at four San Francisco-based retail firms, Bonnie lectures about Tilden Daken at a wide variety of public and private venues, and loves to hear from collectors.  Reach out to her!
